Colorado’s Cory Ross and Iowa’s Marina McCollom capture singles titles at the USPTA Hard Court Championships

Cory Ross, the No. 3 seed, of Denver, claimed the men’s open title at the $10,000 United States Professional Tennis Association Hard Court Championships Sunday at the Hollytree Country Club in Tyler, Texas. Ross upset the No. 1 seed, Trace Fielding of San Antonio, 7-6, 6-2, for the championship. Marina McCollom of Ames, Iowa, earned the women’s open championship title by going undefeated in round robin play. McCollom defeated Brittany Serret of Alexandria, La., by a walkover due to injury. McCollom later joined forces with Paulo Barros of Orlando, Fla., to win the mixed open doubles title. With this win, McCollom ends 2008 by winning the women’s open singles title in four of the five USPTA surface tournaments, including the International Championships.
