"On Court with USPTA" is the cable TV show produced by the United States Professional Tennis Association. In this episode USPTA Professional 1 Shirley Mendoza Gearon demonstrates four practice drills that identify and alleviate common doubles mistakes. In "First Step to Doubles," Mendoza Gearon offers tips on how to find a good hitting partner, choose a racquet and tennis apparel, plus discusses ways to keep your body healthy on court. This is an excellent show for new players or old players making their way back to doubles.
Mendoza Gearon works with a wide tennis population from competitive juniors to club-level players to wheelchair athletes and persons with intellectual disabilities. She strongly believes everyone can enjoy the game of tennis. Mendoza Gearon was recently named Team USA 2011 Special Olympics Coach at the World Games in Greece. She is a member of the USTA Texas Wheelchair Committee and volunteers with adaptive surfing. She also has her own line of women's tennis apparel, "K-Claw."
"On Court" is a half-hour instructional show featuring USPTA-certified professionals as guest instructors. The USPTA became the first tennis-teaching organization ever to produce and air an educational television series on playing and teaching tennis on the Tennis Channel in 2003. Since then, more than 60 shows have been produced that provide instruction about technique, strategy and other facets of the game, such as fun and fitness. All production is done in-house, which includes everything from planning and scripting to shooting and editing to graphics and DVD duplication. All episodes of "On Court" are now in high-definition.
