Sneak a peak at April issue of Tennisplayer.net
Ever wonder why you could never hit a consistent, heavy wide slice? Check out a jewel of an article from Dennis Ralston on the secrets he learned from Pancho Gonzales that made the wide slice his best serve and a cornerstone of multiple Grand Slam doubles titles.
The straight arm forehand hit by Rafael Nadal, Fernando Verdasco, and, sometimes, Federer is getting a lot of attention in coaching and playing discussions on the Internet. But it's not really new. Jeff Counts uses slow-motion video to take a look at players like Alex Coretja and Mark Philippoussis who hit it throughout their careers. But something makes Nadal's different. Find out what.
The pro backhand volley is hit with many variations of spin and pace from a range of heights from the ankles to over the head. A new article from John Yandell using superhigh-speed video shows how the fundamental elements are combined in all these shots and why there is so much confusion and disagreement about how to hit this critical shot.
All this, plus two insider pieces on the matches at Indian Wells, Dmitry Tursunov in the Stroke Archive, and more! | Back to top
