This month’s issue of Tennisplayer.net features the following:

  • Don Brosseau’s second article explores the differences between rhythm and timing. Do you understand the subtle differences in the release of the racquet head depending on the speed, spin, and trajectory of the ball? See what Roger Federer does and a series of powerful drills to develop timing for your own students.
  • Rick Macci is one of the most popular writers on the site, and we are also quite excited to begin publishing a new series from him on starting young players correctly. This subject probably applies equally as well to beginner and lower-level adults. Do we start with the grips and the swings, or is the attitude and the mind-set of the student the most important prerequisite?
  • And speaking of famous contributors, it’s great to have new work from Jim Loehr. Jim is a pioneer in the true sense of the word and the concepts and lexicon he has developed have passed into common usage. It’s hard to remember when we didn't have the phrase "mental toughness" isn't it? In a two-part series, Jim focuses on the role of emotions and the relationship between the mental training techniques and how the player really feels inside when performing at his or her best.
  • Is the serve and volley really dead? Not if you watch Radek Stepanek play! In the Stroke Archive, we have more than 75 tremendous new serve and volley and approach sequences. The guy not only has impeccable volley technique, he also is tremendously explosive in his forward movement.

There's a lot more too in the July Tennisplayer, including the third installment in our documentary on Pancho Gonzales, and some surprising clips on the history of the windshield wiper forehand in the Interactive Forum. Check it out!
